Our intrepid group battled the summer heat and completed another six challenging trail routes, with a new route active each Monday, starting July 8. Each route was active for two weeks. Kudos to our course developer team of Jenny McLaughlin, Tony Scanlan, Brian Hildreth, Wesley Elmore and Jessica Kormelink, who mapped out and marked our routes! Carol Wolfe organized a few evening meetups to encourage mutual support--sometimes complete with post-run food! And thanks also to Tom Rindt, for website help.
In our fifth year, thirty-seven runners and hikers signed up. The Burroughs High Cross Country Team also did some training runs on our courses! Thirty-one participants turned in results, and earned series points, for at least one of the six courses. Congratulations to this year's top points-earners! Here are the complete challenge results.

For everyone who did not join us, but may still want to run or hike the routes that we ran and experiment with route navigation, course information for 2024, as well as previous years, can be found on our challenge pages.
Race Director Jenny McLaughlin reports that ninety-four people signed up this year! Both the middle school and high school cross-country teams were well represented. Also, many non-students toed the line.
The first two runners across the finish line were high-schoolers Eve Washburn and Silas Aberer, and the first two middle-schoolers were Peyton Sievers and Aaron Aberer.
One participant finished her first ever OTHTC event. We hope Mrs. Scanlan (Tony's mom) joins us in future events.
Special thanks to Kathy Martin for helping mark the course. And, to Don Snyder for preparing the snacks, setting up the refreshment tables and hauling water.
The Annual Firecracker 4000 race was held July 4th. Even though the forecast called for high temperatures, 45 runners participated in this Over the Hill Track Club 4000 meter trail run event. The first male runner to cross the finish line was 17-year-old Ryan Morrison with 17-year-old Logan Tomlinson close behind. Ryan's finishing time was 18:53.
The first female across the finish line was 29-year-old Amanda Strand with a finishing time of 23:00.
Thanks to Corky Furnish for helping out at the finish line. And thanks to the unknown person or persons that helped pick up the course markings after the race.

New Race Director Tom Miller reports: We had a nice morning for a 5k run in the Rademachers. Kathy Martin had been hosting this run for years, so most of us still call it Kathy's Breakfast Run. It is the last surviving race in the OTHTC Breakfast Run series. We had 50 runners come out for a hilly course at the Gateway Trailhead. This is a race with no timing and no awards but lots of breakfast treats and drinks. We even had a few of the runners bring additional treats to add to the after-run snacks. Thanks!
The youngest runners to complete the course were Anna Washburn, age 10 and Uxbal Ortiz, 12. Our two eldest finishers were Kathy Martin (her first running) and Wesley Elmore.
Congratulations to all who completed the race and enjoyed the trail!
From Race Director Brian Hildreth:
On April 20th, the Over the Hill Track Club's 47th annual Inyokern 10-Mile Run took place. The race is a point to point route beginning at the intersection of Highway 395/S. China Lake Blvd. and Old Hwy 395/Brown Road. The route follows Brown Road west then north into Inyokern, ending at the Inyokern Senior Center. This event has been in existence almost continuously since 1974. The traditional route, slightly short of ten miles, was lengthened last year to bring it up to a more accurate ten miles.
It was a nice warm sunny morning. There were 32 official entrants to the race with a handful of those electing for an early start. Runners were treated to a stirring rendition of the National Anthem and a traditional shotgun start.
Local runners stole the show this year with 1st place winner Nate Kimbler (who just competed in the Boston Marathon one week prior) sprinting out to an early lead, finishing with a new current course configuration record with a time of 1:09:31. Nate was followed closely by current Burrough's High School Cross Country/Track coach Ephraim Washburn, who finished second place overall with a time of 1:11:47. Jason Zehendner came in 3rd place overall with a fast time of 1:15:16. Rounding out 4th and 5th place male finishers were Brad Kasberg and Matthew Kimbler.
Cara Griffith took control of the female field early on and never looked back, finishing more than 10 minutes ahead of second place. She took home the 1st place female trophy with an impressive time of 1:18:26, also a new current course configuration record time. Megan Zehendner and Connie Scanlan put in strong performances taking home 2nd and 3rd place female trophies respectively. Rounding out the top 5 female finishers were Carol Wolfe and Linda Dewees.
Local legend John Carey (80 years young), put in a noteworthy performance finishing in just over 3 hours. For a handful of other runners, it was their first time ever attempting the 10 mile distance, with 31 of the 32 starters completing the full 10 miles.
Special thanks go out to all the volunteers who helped make this race a success, to include Jonathan Slager for manning the well-stocked mile 4 aid station and Randy Klassen and Annie for heading up the mile 7 aid station. Other notable volunteers were check-in and timing crew, and finish line crew members Kimberly Wilbourn, and Mika and Marlee Hildreth.

A few of the runners along the way
A cool sunny morning quickly led to comfortable temperatures for the 4th edition of the Lost Run. Each person was given a card with a topographic map marked with the locations of 5 orange cones. Participants could try for either 3 cones (A Little Lost) or all 5 cones (More Lost). Starting at 8:00 am, orienting their map to north, discerning topographical features such as hills, spurs and some roads, 15 runners and hikers headed south and west into the Rademacher hills in search of the orange cones. Contestants could find the cones in any order, traveling by roads, trails or cross-country. Upon finding a cone, contestants would record on their card the symbol attached to the cone. Awards went to the first participants returning to the start point and having recorded the correct symbols for either 3 or 5 cones.
Megan Zehendner was the first person to come in. She took the first place female award in the "A Little Lost" category, finding 3 points. The next group of runners arrived within a few minutes of each other. Tony Scanlan was the first male in the "More Lost" category, finding 5 points. Close behind was the rest of the Zehendner family, Jason second in the Male "More Lost" division and Shade taking first in the Female "More Lost" division. Wrapping up the final award spot was Brian Veit, claiming the top spot in the Male "A Little Lost" category.
What is the distance? It really depends on how accurate one's navigation skills are and how much cross-country travel is involved. Someone who knew the locations of all 5 cones would take 4.5-5 miles to complete it. If someone had difficulty finding a cone(s) and went back and forth searching, it might add up to 6-9 miles to finish.
A big thankyou to Brian Wolfe, who ensured the points were accurately placed on the map cards. Thanks also to previous Race Director Elisa Zimmerman who, while unable to attend, provided snacks. And thanks to all the participants who were brave enough to challenge their map reading skills to wander to and fro getting "lost".

The 2024 Prediction Run is in the books! The weather was great--we could not have asked for better. We had a great turnout of 22 runners. Congratulations to our winners: Jerry Garcia placed first, finishing within 51 seconds of his predicted time. Ryan Lilly placed second in an exciting finish--only 80 seconds from his expected time. Third place was shared by Gina Silong and Todd St Laurrent, both finishing within 94 seconds of their prediction. We want to welcome Jerry Garcia to our running community as well as our city. This was his first run with OTHTC. He enjoyed it and said he and his wife want to do more events with us this year. The efforts of our runners were amazing and made the race exciting to both run and watch from the finish line. With that said we can't wait to see everyone at our next OTHTC event.

OTHTC held its annual member join and renew meeting and pizza party on February 13 at John's Pizza. Thank-you to everyone who came! A preliminary calendar of events for 2024 was put together, and officers were elected. Most of the 2023 board members agreed to continue; however, treasurer Jessica Kormelick is planning to retire from work later this year, and opted to also retire from her OTHTC board position. A huge thanks to Jessica for her service to our club over the past five years--starting as VP in 2019 and assuming the treasurer role in 2020. During the meeting, nobody could be convinced to run for that position, so it remained vacant, to be filled by the board as soon as possible. Longtime club member Carol Wolfe has now stepped forward and offered to take on that task.

Race Director Roger Brower reports: After a 3 year break (due to COVID and illness), I was able to again direct the annual New Year's Resolution Run on January 1. It turned out to be a great restart. The weather was perfect and the turnout was great (38 runners, 4 donkeys and several dogs). The only downside was that last summer's hurricane had left several gullies on the race route. The runners were alerted to this, but stated they were not seriously bothered by them. The traditional Apple Cider and Cinnamon Rolls were provided after the race. Many runners expressed pleasure at the race's return. Thanks to all the runners.
And thanks, Roger, for bringing back the Resolution Run!

Race director Julie Jensen reports a successful return to the High Desert Ultra! We had 147 people start the race. Congratulations to our 50k champions! Jorge Pacheco (Bib #168) won the race in a time of 3:57:07. Jorge is no stranger to the OTHTC High Desert Ultra. This was his 19th finish and eighth win! Our female champion is Madeline Ogle (Bib #54) who finished in a time of 4:10:05. A time good enough for 3rd overall! This was Madeline's first OTHTC High Desert Ultra.
Congratulations to our 30k champions! Travis Cone (Bib #166) took first place in a time of 2:34:09. This was Travis' sixth OTHTC High Desert Ultra finish! Our female 30k champion is Summer Frazier (Bib #171) in a time of 2:41:40. This was Summer's first 30k finish, but she has three OTHTC High Desert 50k finishes. Here are the complete 50k and 30k results.

Coach Ephraim Washburn and the Burroughs High School cross country team continued their race management of the Turkey Trot for OTHTC. It was a beautiful Thanksgiving Day with over 600 registered runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels. The 5K race started and ended at the parking lot of the Cerro Coso Community College gymnasium. Lydia Washburn was the first place female finisher, with a time of 23:19, and Silas Aberer was the first place male finisher in 17:27. Both were awarded the coveted turkey hat. Congratulations to all the finishers!

Report by Race Director Jenny McLaughlin
The 20th Annual Back to School Fun Run and Walk was held on August 19, on trails just south of Cerro Coso College. We got lucky on the weather! It was a pleasant 75 degrees at race start. And, Tropical Storm Hilary had not yet reached the Indian Wells Valley. About 110 people signed up for the event. Both the Middle School and Burroughs High School cross country teams were well represented. These runners gave us a very exciting race!
Race winners were Eve Washburn and Zion Ortiz. Photos courtesy of Ephraim Washburn.

Race director Kathy Martin reports that were 57 runners and walkers who signed in for this year's run plus a few who did not sign in. There were also 4 dogs and 4 burros who participated. Almost half of the people were under 20 thanks to the big support of the cross country coaches from the high school and middle schools. The first place male was Ryan (didn't get his last name) and the first place female was Eve Washburn. Thanks to all who came out to support the event.

After a few year's hiatus, the Inyokern 10 mile run once again took place on Saturday, April 22nd. It was a nice warm sunny morning. This year's edition was slightly different than past runnings of the race in that an extra .3 mile desert loop was added right at the start line to make the race an even 10 miles. There were 17 official entrants to the race. Unofficially, the lightning fast Burroughs High School Cross Country/Track team was out in full force joining in and running varying distances of the course and rooting runners on at the finish line. Runners were treated to a stirring rendition of the National Anthem and a traditional shotgun start.
Local runner Brad Kasberg sprinted out to an early lead for the first few miles but was eventually overtaken by 1st place male and overall winner Ryan Raglin and 1st place female and second place overall Charity Pering. The U.S. Navy Chiefs had a strong showing in the race with Joseph Megill taking the 2nd place male trophy. Liw Hongu was 3rd place male, and Armando Ancayan came in as the 6th place male. Kali Raglin and Sharon Canfield put in strong performances taking home 2nd and 3rd place female trophies. Local legends Eric Kajiwara and John Carey also put in noteworthy performances.
Special thanks goes out to Larry Riendeau and Boy Scouts of America volunteers for manning the well-stocked mile 4 aid station and Randy Klassen for heading up the mile 7 aid station. The Lost Run was was a memorable event. The attendees were treated to rare snowfall in the desert! A huge thank you to the 13 participants that braved the weather and the other supporters of the event that came out. The rain, fog, mud, and snow made it a challenge to find the check points but we had some finishers of the 'less lost' course (3 cones) and the 'more lost' course (5 cones). Congratulations to the winners Eldon Mason, Jill Patterson, Brian Hildreth, and Laura Ortiz.

The annual KO Half Marathon was held on November 5. Since it was a busy weekend in Ridgecrest on the weekend of the race, we only had 10 participants. It was a chilly start but turned into a nice day during the event. Thanks to Corky Furnish, Tony and Connie Scanlan, and Chris Rios for manning the aid stations for us. Thanks to Jo Kajiwara for helping me mark the course. And thanks to Dawn Petrovich and Connie for helping me remove the course markings, especially Dawn for helping after running a 100 mile race the weekend before.

The Bucket List Marathon was a huge success! It was wonderful to have youth and elders and ages in-between, walkers and sprinters and joggers, a few donkeys, a couple of dogs, and a few bikes. This event truly has something for everyone, and the presence of each and every individual (and their animals at times) makes this event very special indeed. Some came from out of town, good to have you! We had a few "newbies" show up--welcome to our crazy group! It’s always fun to have the cross-country team attend and show us how it's done. One day, when I grow up, I will be a fast runner too!
Our youngest participants were CJ Brown, age 5 and Evy Kunkel, age 3. CJ and Evy are OTHTC members-in-training, and we expect big things from them in the future.
When I created the Bucket List Marathon, it was with the idea that it would provide an opportunity (with a very generous cut off time) for someone to complete a marathon, and check it off their bucket list. One person who did that this year is local Brian Veit, who completed his very first marathon. Brian, our collective hats are off to you. Well done, and congratulations! You did it!
We had the "usual suspects" who completed either the marathon or 50K. Wow, you guys just.can't.get.enough.running! So proud and honored to have my friends come out and put in the effort, sweat, and I suspect an occasional cuss word. Connie Scanlan won the drawing that was for the marathon and longer runners, and went home with a crisp one-hundred-dollar bill. Brian Hildreth won the drawing for a free entry to next months' RDC (Ridgecrest Desert Classic) mountain bike race, comped by Race Directors Tom and Rebecca Kunkel. Lets see if Brian rides a mountain bike as well as he runs! Go here for all the Bucket List results.
I want to acknowledge the help that my husband, the greatest guy on earth, gave me, yet again, with this event. Couldn't pull it off without you, Brian Wolfe. Sending hearts!

This was the third year organizing this virtual trail running series. Six enthusiastic volunteers came up with the interesting courses this year. We again allowed two weeks to run or hike each of the six courses, with new course going active each Monday. More information on the series is available here.
Forty-three runners and hikers signed up, and of those, 24 did all six courses! These numbers were all greater than for last year. Series male and female points leaders in six age groups received awards. Congratulations to this year's top points-earners
Challenge wrapup report and results

About 115 people signed up for the event. The Burroughs and Middle School cross-country teams showed up in force, making for a very exciting, fast race.
The winners were:
Men/Boys division 1st place runner
Zion Ortiz - 12:02
Women/Girls division 1st place runner
Eve Washburn - 13:45
Wow! Congratulations to the winners, and to everyone who came out to run or walk the course.
A few dogs and two donkeys also completed the course.

Eric Kajiwara reports that there were 48 participants at the Firecracker 4000 this time. First place in the men's running division was 17 year old Yaseen Sardar with a time of 17:15. First in the women's running division was 18 year old Leah Tomlinson. First walker was Denise Gorman, accompanied by Snickers.

After a 2-year break from the June Breakfast Run, it was held again on June 4th. A total of 38 runners and walkers, 3 dogs, and 3 burros (and one early runner who had a 7:00 class) showed up to participate. The normal desert breeze helped to keep the morning a bit more tolerable. The first place male runner was 15-year old Zion Ortiz and the first female was 13-year old Eve Washburn--good performances for both of them. Thanks to everyone one who came out and hopefully we can do it again next year.
We did learn that this was the last local race for Burroughs coach Anthony Barnes. He is moving to Orlando later this month. We wish him the best of luck, and his support for the high school and the running community will be missed.

The annual OTHTC membership/renewal party hosted by the OTHTC board (Dianne, Carol, Connie, Jessica and Elisa) was given a welcome surprise by Mother Nature--no wind! The day couldn’t have been more perfect.
We came. We partied. We ate pizza. We renewed memberships, and we had a couple of newbies join the group. But one of the best parts was the challenge course, created by Carol and Brian Wolfe, and Connie Scanlan.
There were about 11 challenges--some were easy, some were hard, some were ridiculous. The hardest challenges had alternate, easier versions, so the entire course was doable by everyone.
And just about everyone dug in and did it!
We began the challenge course with a warm-up led by Connie, with "Eye of the Tiger" blasting from our wee little blue tooth speaker, to get us all pumped up and feelin' the groove. Then, the course led the participants through various stations. We serpentined. We ran along logs, climbed ropes, carried bricks, did burpees and jumping jacks, hopscotch-like jumps, pushups, ball throws and finally, a 50-ish yard dash. While our timing apparatus and technique weren’t exactly Olympic quality, we did have a couple clear winners--Laura Ortiz for the gals, Andrew Smetana for the guys. That guy and gal run like greased lightening! To top off the challenge course, the participants had to join Carol on the patio for a dance-off to (you guessed it) "You Sexy Thing". The image of Andrew doing The Worm to "You Sexy Thing" is seared into our eyeballs for life.
We also had drawings, swag, free t shirts, and other giveaways. If you weren't there, you missed out!
Regardless of age and/or ability, OTHTC members have still got what it takes to leap and run and play and dance like there's no tomorrow!
Until next year!

This year we had a limit of 200 runners, to help mitigate the threat from COVID. We had a beautiful day for the race and everyone seemed very happy with the weather conditions!
A big thank you to Race Director Maria Coit. She did a fine job this year, despite the extra challenges of COVID and COVID precautions. We appreciate all our volunteers--aid stations, course marking, check-in and finish line.
We apologize for the lack of access to the college bathroom facilities. The person that would normally have opened the gym for us was out with COVID. The doors had been set to automatically open at 5am, but that did not function as planned. We will be getting a full refund of our fees.

What a fantastic day in the desert! We really got lucky--the Bucket List Marathon was sandwiched in between some windy days, but race day was bright and sunny with the slightest of cool breezes in the afternoon.
Each year I host this race, it's my hope that it will bring someone out of the woodwork who never thought they'd be able to complete a marathon. That didn't happen this year, but we did entice some newbies to come out and play in the shorter distances, and I'm hopeful they will join the club and the fun.
Normally I don't run in my own event, but this year I did. My husband Brian was the co-race director, since I was a little busy! Kudos to my guy for helping with set up, cooking, cheer-leading, and tear down. Even Fat-Ass style events are a lot of work, and I couldn't have had my day without Brian.
Speaking of volunteers, a special shout out to Tony and Connie Scanlan, who marked the trail. They went above and beyond--marking trail late Friday night and early Saturday morning, sacrificing much of their precious time for the event. Thanks Tony and Connie--you're golden!
There was only one finishing prize, a hundred-dollar bill, donated by me, and it went into a drawing for only the people who completed the marathon distance or further. Darrell Price was the lucky winner! Maybe he'll buy Brian and me a beer... ??
We came. We ran. We walked. We ate. We drank. We made merry. Thanks to everyone for coming out and having a fun day in the desert. Until next year!

I was happy to organize this virtual trail running series again this year. It was fun to try to come up with some new running routes. Hubby Tom got in on the fun by helping decide on this year's courses. He especially gets the credit (or blame?) for Brady Hills! And special thanks go to Connie and Tony Scanlan, for picking up the course marking flags.
We again featured six courses, but the time frame to run or hike each course was expanded to two weeks, to allow more flexibility. The courses were described online, with maps, descriptions, and downloadable routes for use with various navigation apps. Series points were awarded each week, to those submitting times and tracks, and total points determined at the end.
Thirty-seven runners and hikers signed up. Twenty-seven of those turned in results from at least one of the six courses. And 17 of those did all six of them! Participants could run the courses on their own, and there were also some unofficial meet-up opportunities. I enjoyed the posts on our Facebook event pages. It was especially nice to see so many families sharing this experience together! Kudos to everyone who braved the heat, and toward the end, the smoke coming from our California fires, to meet this challenge.
Congratulations to this year's series point winners. We had two ties!

We returned to an in-person run this year, with COVID precautions. A total of 94 people signed up online for the run. There was good attendance by the middle school and Burroughs High School cross country teams. There were at least a couple dozen other participants not on the teams.
An hour before race start, there was significant smoke in the air from the "French" fire near Wofford Heights. The cross country coaches were concerned that it would be too thick for safe running. But, a desert wind blew up from the southwest and cleared away most of the smoke before the race start!
It was a fast race. The first male finisher was Yaseen Sardar at 11:47 - - - only two seconds off from the course record of 11:45 set by Bryce Hill! The first female finisher was Rennee Mena at 15:28.
This was the first in-person race held by the OTHTC since early 2020. Participants wore masks and socially distanced in the start/finish area. The wind also helped to make this a safe race.
There was also a Virtual Back to School Fun Run and Walk ongoing through Sunday, August 29.

Race Director Kathy Martin writes:
Twenty plus people did the Non-Breakfast Run this year, running the course at a time of their choosing between June 4th and 13th. I checked parts of the course practically every day then did the entire course on Saturday the 12th. It all looked good, except for a few faded arrows. However, when I went out to pick up the ribbons on Monday they were all missing from one section. Hopefully no one had a problem with following the route. The missing ribbons were on a fairly straight portion and the turns leading onto and off of that area still had the ribbons.
Thanks to everyone who ran or walked the course this year. Next year I hope to be able to set up a "real" Breakfast Run. See you there.

We had 81 participants sign up for this virtual event. Participants could run a 5K anywhere, anytime during Thanksgiving week (Monday through Sunday). A total of $1100 was donated! OTHTC will be donating 100% of this amount, less 4% processing fees, to the Burroughs HS Boys and Girls Cross Country Team. Thanks for all the generous donations.

The virtual Back to School Fun Run took place over the two weeks between September 20 and October 3. In spite of the heat and smoke, at least 50 people completed the event.
The race director periodically walked the course to check the markings. A few ribbons went missing. And, the ants and stink beetles got fat eating the flour arrows! The RD was happy to see lots of sneaker prints on the course.

The summer challenge was a series of six virtual trail running events - one each week for six weeks.
For each event, participants ran the same course, but at a time of their choosing, during the allotted time period of one week. Each course was described by links to course maps in popular run tracking applications, where particpants could download a .gpx file if desired. Courses were in the range of approximately 3 to 6 miles in length, on dirt roads and single-track trails. Series points were awarded for each event, to the top 15 finishers in each age group. At the end of the series, there were awards for the top male and female points earner in each division.
For more information on the series: series winners, complete results, and course descriptions go here.

A total of 23 participants came out on this beautiful day to run the 5.1 mile loop course. Each participant predicts their individual finish time, only knowing the distance of the course. No timing devices were allowed. The participant (male/female) who comes closest to their predicted finish time wins. Among male participants, Tony Scanlan came closest to his predicted time, with a difference of 58 seconds. Madeline Acosta was closest overall to her predicted time, with a difference of 29 seconds.
A donation from the proceeds of the event in the amount of $42.00 will be made to the Murray / Monroe Cross Country Team for their Shoe Scholarship Program.
A special thank you to Eric Kajiwara who assisted in marking the course and Tony Scanlan, who picked up the ribbons after the event.

A record number of runners and walkers showed up for the Breakfast Run on June 8th. There were 56 ranging in ages from 4 to 90. There were also five burros and two dogs who ran the course. The calm morning and slightly cooler morning temperature helped to make the event more enjoyable. The first place male was Bryce Hill with a time of 21:32 and the first place female was Madeline Acosta with a time of 28:53. Thanks to all who entered and encouraged me to do it again

The 45th Inyokern 10-mile run took place on a beautiful sunny day, with slight breezes and the hint of summer's strong heat bearing down on the heels of 18 hearty participants. An apparent course record was set as Christian Schultz took 1st place in under 50 minutes! Although records of past races are incomplete, it is almost certain that this is a new record. Congratulations to Christian, the division winners, all the runners and especially those who ran this race for the first time.

If you have ever run out in the desert surrounding Ridgecrest and gotten "lost", then this run is for you! The run had no set course. There were 3 points out in the Rademacher hills, that each of the 15 participants needed to find, place a mark on their map card and return to the start point. The distance was approximately 4 miles, or longer depending on how "lost" the participants got while searching for their points. There were awards for top runners. Brian Hildreth was the first finisher, and Tony Scanlan was the second place male finisher. Laura Ortiz was second overall and the first place female finisher. Katherine Posner her dog "Doug" were in third place overall, and Kathrine was the second place female. Refreshments were provided after the race.

Runners enjoyed ideal conditions for this year's edition of the High Desert Ultra, with 155 finishing the 50k and 89 completing the 30k event. In the 50K, Jorge Pacheco of Los Angeles, 51, long-time friend of our event, was first to cross the finish line in 3:32:56. First female was Summer Frazier, 38, Bishop, in 4:40:22. A new 70-79 male division record was turned in by George Greco, with his 5:52:52 besting the old record by 34 seconds. And in the 60-69F division, Jill Weisman, Santa Monica, with a time of 5:03:11, destroyed the existing age group record by over 11 minutes.
The 30K was won by Graham Lambert, 51, of Tustin, in 2:21:20. Lambert also bested the 50-59M division course record. Alicia Longyear, Rancho Cucamonga, 41, captured the female overall title with a time of 2:35:05.

Hi all! Well, the Bucket List Marathon has come and gone, and what can I say...without sounding vain...it was simply one of the best events...ever!
Nearly 20 people showed up...some for a stroll, others to complete a 1/2 marathon, and 6 to complete the entire marathon. When I came up with the idea of the Bucket List Marathon, my goal was simple...to provide a means for just one person to be able to complete a marathon, and check it off their bucket list. We ended up with two people who had never completed a marathon before, and my hat's off to both of them. Jim Fallgatter, and Gregory Ostrom II. (Greg won it in the time of 4:06). But this wasn't just about winning. While my hat's off to Greg, we all expected him to do well, and he didn't disappoint. While everyone is a hero in their own right (complete list of heros to follow) a special, super duper notable hero is Jim Fallgatter, who at the age of 73, completed his VERY FIRST marathon! Please join me in congratulating ALL the winners, with a special tip of the hat to Jim and Greg.
The words of thanks I have received from all of the runners and walkers has earned something that hopefully more of you will benefit from - there will be a second Bucket List Marathon next year - it might have a different name, or might remain named the same. Thanks to all the runners and walkers who showed up to make this a very special event that will continue as long as I live here in Ridgecrest to host it. And last but certainly not least, thanks to the folks who lent me a hand...I came down with the flu the week of the run, and can't remember ever feeling so sick. I read an entire book and watched two entire seasons of Grey's Anatomy though, so all was not lost :)
Karin and John, thanks for helping with keeping the runners fed and happy. JR and Julie, thanks for hanging out at the turn around points to make sure everyone found their way. And the very biggest thanks to my awesome hubby Brian, who ran to the store numerous times, helped with EVERYTHING, and was there to ease my nerves the few days prior to the event. Brian...you're my person and I love you to the moon and back!
OK, results, in no particular order and no times listed (everyone was done well before dark!)

Race Director Jenny McLaughlin ordered up a wonderfully cool and unsmoky morning for the annual Back to School Run. Both the Burroughs and middle school cross country teams showed up in full force, contributing to a record turnout of 108 participants!
This event, not just for the cross country students, was also well-attended by OTHTC members of all ages, as well as the general community. It was especially enjoyable to see so many parents running the 2-mile course with younger children!

We had a total of 68 runners/walkers participate in this fun run.
Race Director Andrew Mitchell would like to thank all those that came out to participate.
A special thanks to Eric Kajiwara for helping mark the course.

Thirty-three entrants, three burros, and one dog showed up for the June 9th breakfast run. The Burroughs cross country team turned out in full force with Josh Washburn the first male finisher and Leah Tomlinson the first female. The weather was a bit breezy, which made for a cooler start; however Elaine Riendeau's dog thought it was still a little too warm. She stopped in the shade heading towards the finish. Darrell Price carried her to the finish line. The burros were a big hit with everyone and they all seemed to enjoy the attention and treats at the end. Thanks to all who came out, especially the cross country kids and their mothers who helped with the setup. Hope to see everyone again next year.

Forty-seven runners showed up for the 2018 running of the Caballo Blanco Run Free. Runners could run one 5.1 mile lap, or continue on with more laps. John Radich actually made 9 circuits of the hilly course, clocking in 45.9 miles. Some runners who ran multiple laps ran the course backwards for some of their laps for a little variety. Whatever they ran, everyone had a great time. Click here for the full results.

We had four Legends and ten Young Folks participate in the first annual Senior Discount Run on a cold and windy day. The race consisted of two running routes where the Legend runners were entitled to five "discounts" on the 6.5 mile course, shortening their distance to 5 miles.
The first male Legend (age 55 and over) runner was Bryan Ogilvy with a time of 45:47 and the first female Legend runner was Dianne Rindt with a time of 1:10:21. The top finishers in the Young Guys and Gals (age 54 and under) division were Jason Zehendher finishing the 6.5 mile course in 56:30 and Elisa Zimmerman with a time of 1:11:35. The "Old Guys Rule" award goes to 58 year old Wesley Elmore who wanted to show the young guys how it was done and ran the 6.5 mile course in 1:07:27.
Special thanks goes to all who helped mark the course and also to Erica Mitchell who pre-ran the course and to Karin Usko and Brian Kajiwara for sweeping the trail.

It was a brisk morning but 25 runners came out for the 2018 OTHTC Prediction Run, where all you have to do is predict your finish time. Of course, the only course information you have prior to predicting your time is the distance. As usual the Kajiwara/Mitchell course did not disappoint. Samantha Gardner was the female runner who came closest to her predicted time with the difference between predicted and actual time of 1:26. John Auborn was the male runner who came closest to his predicted time with the difference between predicted and actual time of 1:28.
Thanks to all the runners who came out to support our event.

Race Directors John Auborn and Karin Usko had a perfect day for the event. We had 33 runners start for both the approximately 5 mile and approximately 10 mile events. The course had some challenging climbs but also beautiful scenery. The winner of the 5 mile (actually 4.4 mile) course was Gregory Ostrom with a time of 47 minutes, and the winner of the 10 mile course was Brian Hildreth with a time of 1:37.
