We are located north of the greater Los Angeles area, in the Mojave Desert, a few miles east of where Highway 14 joins Highway 395.
From LAX and the western part of Los Angeles, travel time will be about 3 hours, depending on traffic. Take Hwy 14 north, passing through Lancaster and Mojave. Stay on Hwy 14 in Mojave and travel through scenic Red Rock Canyon. Watch for the exit onto Hwy 178 East/Inyokern/Ridgecrest and head straight into town.
From the San Bernardino area, eastern LA county, or San Diego, take I-215/I-15 up through Cajon Pass, exiting onto US-395 towards Adelanto and Bishop. Pass through an old mining district at Red Mountain and Johannesburg. Exit onto Business 395 towards Ridgecrest.
The drive from Mammoth Lakes, with the highest Sierra Nevada peaks to the west and the nearly as high White Mountains and Coso Range to the east, is a truly scenic one. If you haven't traveled this route, be sure to do it in the daytime! The Manzanar National Historic site, between Independence and Lone Pine, is a worthwhile stop along the way. Nearing Ridgecrest, stay on Hwy 395 where Hwy 14 splits off, then turn east on Hwy 178 near Inyokern.
To get across the Sierra to the Eastside, you can take Tioga Pass (if open) through Yosemite NP, or go through Bakersfield. Tioga Pass will take you to Lee Vining on 395, not far north of Mammoth Lakes. Just head south on 395 to Ridgecrest. From Bakersfield, Highway 58 over Tehachapi Pass is the quickest route, but you might enjoy traveling on Hwy 178 through Lake Isabella. In either case, turn north on Highway 14 and exit on 178 eastbound to Ridgecrest.
