Back to School Run

The Back to School Fun Run/Walk is a two-mile event that has been held yearly for about 15 years. The course starts and ends at the trailhead parking lot just south of Cerro Coso Community College. The course is shown in the map below.

Click on the map above to display the route on the CalTopo website. From there you can download a .gpx or .kml file using near the upper left of the page. You can then import the .gpx file to a route navigation application. Instructions for using several popular navigation applications can be found here.

Course Description

• Start at the dirt parking lot south of the college.
• Exiting the parking lot, turn right (south) and head up College Heights Blvd.
• At almost 0.25 miles turn left onto a trail that heads east.
• Follow this trail for about 0.5 miles, passing over a motorcycle practice track.
• Turn right (south) at the third road past the motorcycle track. There is a BLM paddle "GLDBUG" shortly after you turn onto this road. This road is also marked "SUNLAND" in a few places.
• When you reach a paddle indicating "RC 16" branching to the left, take a sharp right turn to head northwest.
• At the top of the small ridge, turn right onto a mountain bike trail.
• Follow the mountain bike trail until you exit onto College Heights.
