The starting point of this run is at the El Paso Hills Brown Road Trailhead. The location is just off of Brown Road once you cross Highway 395. It is roughly a 4 mile run. The course is marked in flags and red chalk.
Start at the east end of the parking area, following the leftmost of several southbound roads. Continue south, as you pass a large area of graded, fenced land on your right and then the Bike Course Trailhead on your left. DO NOT turn onto the bike course. Make a left at next fork, about .4 miles from the beginning. Continue on this path until you reach a "T", shortly before reaching the abandoned railroad tracks. Make a right. Follow this path for roughly .3 miles, where you will turn left to make your way up into mountains, at about 1 mile from the start.
Stay on this path up into and around the mountain until you come to a fork signed EP33 on the right fork. This turn is around 1.7 miles from the start. Make a right onto EP33. You will follow this path all the way down until you hit the old train tracks, where you will make a left and run on the actual old railroad bed. Please keep in mind, you may see course markings on the dirt road to your right; those mark your return path. Stay on the railbed (orange flags on the left) until you see the flags and red chalk directly on the right side of the railbed, marking the turnaround point, at about 2.7 miles. Make the sudden right to the dirt path below and reverse direction. You will make your way back following this path, paralleling the railbed, until you see a dirt path off to the left, at just before 3 miles. Make a left. You will be on EP237. Follow this path, rejoining your outbound route at about 3.55 miles. Stay left and retrace your steps back to the beginning of the trailhead.
The green buttons will take you to a Course page on Garmin Connect, or a Route on Strava or MapMyRun. If you need a .gpx file, you will be able to download that from any of these route pages, but Garmin Connect and Strava .gpx files do contain more track information than MapMyRun. You can review the route navigation instructions here.
