This course starts and finishes at El Paso Hills Brown Road Trailhead. It generally follows the High Sierra Cyclists' time trial course. It follows the loop clockwise, and takes a shortcut in the middle. The distance is about 3.8 miles. To get to the trailhead, go out South China Lake Boulevard to Hwy 395, and cross 395 to Brown Road. Almost immediately you will see the parking lot on the left side.
The green buttons will take you to a Course page on Garmin Connect, or a Route on Strava or MapMyRun. You can review the route navigation instructions here.
Begin on the trail/road leaving the east end of the parking area. At about .4 miles, go left at the trailhead sign, through a "gate". Follow the road another .4 miles uphill until a T just before the abandoned rail tracks. Go left here, and continue more or less alongside the tracks. Just after 1 mile from the start, angle right at a Y and pass through a gate. A short hill follows. At about 1.5 miles from the start, turn right and cross the railroad bed at the map board. You will be following BLM road signed EP33 for awhile now.
At a Y, angle right and start climbing a big hill. Then descend to a junction just after 2 miles. Here we diverge from the HSC course and turn right, staying on EP33. There is a prominent sign "Rock Slabs", which appears to be an alternate HSC bike route. Ascend a more civilized hill, then watch your footing on the descent!
At a little over 2.6 miles, turn right at a blocked intersection, leaving EP33. Further on, cross the railroad bed again, turn right, and after only about 100 yards, turn left. In another .18 miles, join a main road and head back towards the parking lot.
