Double Rocks Loop

This course starts and finishes at the location of the High Desert Ultra Hubcap aid station. Distance is about 4.1 miles. To get there, go east on Kendall. When the pavement ends, turn right on Richmond, then turn left on Javis. At a T, jog left, then back to the right, to head east again. Continue east on RC37 until you reach a fenced study area on your left. Here a road branches southeast toward a large rock outcropping. The run starts here. Although a little bumpy, the road is negotiable by 2WD.

Course Description

Begin on a single track trail that parallels the road heading southeast toward the first rock outcropping. Rejoin the road and skirt the outcropping on the north side. Notice the red roses painted on the southeast side. Stay on the north edge of a confused area, cross a road coming from the north, and look for a single-track heading southeast.

Double Rocks Route Map

Double Rocks Loop

Continue southeast on single track trails toward the next set of rock outcroppings. Find the trail going through the rocks. On exiting the rocks, cross the road and continue on single track heading southeast. Cross a well-traveled road and continue up to some rocks on a gentle ridge. Follow the ridge top.

At about 1.44 miles, turn sharply left and head back downhill. In about a quarter mile, just before passing Double Rocks, veer right to pass south of Double Rocks. Cross a well-traveled road and continue northeast, crossing a couple more roads. Notice the trail(s) going uphill ahead. That is where you are going. About 100 yards after cresting the hill, cross a road that is immediately followed by a Y. Take the left branch of the Y, heading north. Then just after 2.6 miles, turn left/northeast. At 3 miles turn left again, at a junction marked by several large reddish rocks. You will be heading west now. After another half mile or so, you will begin to see the painted rocks that you first skirted. As you approach the rocks, rejoin the first part of the route and retrace your steps to the finish.
